From one Man Men fan to another, as much as I love Don Draper, I have to admit how this post hits the nail directly on the head. I commented about this post in my own post and referenced my own training as it pertained to the Godfather business principles: 1) Keep your friends close and your enemies closer; 2)It's not personal; it's just business.

Social media, along with how the web has evolved, has helped me to strengthen the way I develop and even seek out relationships. Your words inspire me!

Keep the conversation going and throw some more sheep!

I'm a whole series behind in the UK, but I love Mad Men and have a crush on Don Draper because he's very like my father was, in the sense of being a successful businessman with some sharp suits and a lot of unresolved trauma.

I really appreciate the sexual politics of Mad Men and the way that Don's character embodies advertising as all surface and no depth, and the way the pain he won't acknowledge projects him straight into the dreams, hopes and fears that earn him a living.

I really do believe that the game is changing and marketing has to be about authentic relationships. This morning I watched Chimamanda Adichie's TED Talk on "The danger of a single story" . It's another way of looking at relatedness and authenticity that fits with the Don Draper story

Hi Tara- Wonderful post- and great analogy between online relationships and relationships, in general. I doubt Don's going to create more soup friends anytime soon, but the lesson for all of us is that if we don't create meaningful relationships online, then we've been spinning our wheels to no meaningful end for the brand, organization, or customers. Thanks for referencing the post of the 4.000 Followers Who Don't Care. I'm thankful for finding out about "soup friends" from you - a wonderful way to think about online relationships.
