Germs

January 29, 2007 – 10:33 am

Tara sick

Day 4 of the worst flu I can remember having. I’m working from home - suffering from some severe cabin fever - in an attempt not to spread this any further.

It’s germ season, so:

  1. Wash your hands often
  2. If you are sick, please stay at home. I got mine from someone in our office thinking he was too busy to be sick at home. Now I’m suffering. There are loads of things that are nice to share, but this isn’t one of them.
  3. Drink loads of liquids and take your Airborne, Vitamin C and ColdFX to keep your immune system in tip-top shape
  4. I missed my flu shot this year. Big mistake. It really does help.
  5. Get lots of rest

I’m not sure when I cease to be contagious and I can venture out again, but I’m really looking forward to it. Hope everyone else avoids it better!

hi tara. hope you feel better soon. thought you and the readers of this blog might be interested in this:

    http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~cosley/thesis/final.pdf

a 140-page PhD thesis from 2006 i found on how to get people to contribute to online communities. you might have a look at it.

he has some hard data and some mathematical models along with ideas from economics and psychology, so at the least it could be useful if you think someone thinks you’re being too hand-wavey in trying to advocate for the importance of community online.

NOT AIRBORNE!!!! (It’s a complete scam; full of vitamins that you can find for less than half the price by buying Centrum et. al.)

ColdEeze, on the other hand, actually works.

Notice you have a “share this” icon. Maybe that should go down until you perk up? ;-)

Erica, aka slashchick, has provided a brilliant link, and I came here to say the same thing when I saw this post in my RSS reader. The link I was going to provide is the basis for that article, David Cohan’s essay titled “CREATED BY A SCHOOL TEACHER!!!!!”.

“What does it even mean to REPEAT EVERY THREE HOURS AS NECESSARY? Necessary to do what?”

sorry to hear that, just thought i’d post…

As i remember it, when the body gets a virus it raises the body heat to accelerate it’s antibodies to fight the infection, hence the fever.

really good that, but it does mean that you’ll feel like hell for a couple of days and burn off a lot of fluid so drink up.

one tip, if you don’t fancy water, orange squash works just the same and will stave off a tickly throat. just water all the time actually makes your throat dry.

hope this helps, all the best.

    John.
