The 'I love my web apps' meme
Greg at Cistera challenges me to a useful new meme: naming my favourite apps. I'm not usually a fan of passing along memes, but I am a big fan of many of these tools, so I will definitely bite...but put them into various categories:
BLOGGING
Technorati - for tracking, nothing is better.
Wordpress - for publishing. The fact you can download it and customize it makes it even better....although even Matt has to admit this has to get easier for the everyday person...like let me kick around my CSS before I have to learn PHP.
Bloglines - for 'consuming'. I read my blogs through Bloglines. I like the layout of Bloglines. Adding in new blogs is quite simple (although could be better...I have an issue with RSS I will blog about soon in general).
WIKI
PBWiki - simple, nice to look at, relatively spam free and customizable. There are oodles of great wiki tools out there (JotSpot, Wikispaces, etc.), but PBWiki is smashing.
MEDIA
Flickr - a photo site that can make me feel good every time I go there is not rare (photos invoke good feelings)...however, a photo site that treats me with dignity, allows me to discover, lovingly encourages a very rich community and allows my photos to shine is rare. Plus, they are funny.
Blip.tv - we <3 Mike and the amazingly simple and beautiful video hosting site he and his team have created. He is also a very cool guy and really cares about his community members.
BOOKMARKING
Ma.gnolia - [disclosure: they are a client of CA] I also <3 Ma.gnolia. I started using it for it's panache (it's pretty bookmarking site), but ended up falling in love with the groups functions. It's much more useful for organizing my unruly bookmarks that used to just get marked, then lost in de.licio.us. Besides, Larry is totally <3-able, too.
AGGREGATOR
Feedburner - simple, all inclusive, great stats. Nuff said.
MOBILE
Dodgeball - we are Dodgeball addicts...even though we never have time to go out these days. In fact, just last night, everyone was Dodgeballing in from Lazlo and we were hunched over our computers writing this proposal or doing that client work and we felt like we were really missing out...wait a minute! That makes us love Dodgeball? Sigh. We can't shoot the messenger.
Mozes - [disclosure: another client] Mozes is building this awesome platform for SMS that allows you to create ad hoc groups, your own keywords and syntax and, someday, will allow me to access the web through any phone, web enabled or not. Still pretty geeky, but once they figure out how to make it super accessible, everyone will be as hooked as I am.
ENTERTAINMENT
Pandora - of course. I <3 Pandora. Like that is a secret.
Last.fm - although I don't visit it often, I really like their iScrobbler
AskANinja - oh...yeah...
GeekEntertainment.tv - my favourite sell-outs. ;)
BUSINESS STUFF
Harvest - Good for billing / project management / timesheets / invoicing. We are just banging around with this, but we really like it. Also try FreshBooks, another awesome resource to try.
Wild Apricot / Mollyguard - Excellent registration systems.
Basecamp - I like Basecamp and use it a great deal...however, I have the complaint that it becomes a bit of a project graveyard.
gMail / GoogleCalendar / Google Groups - Yeah. Sorry...they are good.
30 Boxes - Good collaborative calendar. They are doing super awesome integration stuff.
Skype - Now with the groups feature, it especially rocks.
Jajah - we just started banging around with this, but conference calling from your cell on the fly is neato.
My Blackberry (with gTalk / Google Maps / etc.) - On the fly, I can still
SOME OTHER GOOD STUFF I LIKE
Cork'd - Chris and I drink lots of wine and like to keep track. Cork'd is awesome for that.
InnerTee - a new open source schwag making place that does screen printing on low volume, which rocks 'cause I hate digital printing.
Shopify - set up your very own retail operation in minutes. A Canadian Gem.
...
I'm sure I'm missing tonnes here. There are so many amazing services...free and cheap...
Okay...so I pass this along to Miss Alicia, Tejas Patel and Caterina.

What, no mention of a mapping application - with the amount of travelling you put in I'd have thought one of those would be essential.
I <3 Pandora?
Am I missing a new piece of grammar? Spelling? Smiley?
What is <3
Interesting Riya's not in there.
Nice links!
Hopefully someday we will have 80%+ of our daily requirement of applications available from the web so that we aren't tied down to the home, office or even notebook computer but rather to an experience of accessability tied to the availability of a browser.
Please keep this updated as you come across more apps in your voyage thru cyberspace.
I think <3 means "I heart".
I keep getting new social sites to check out and work with. My head is spinning. I dont <3 all this work.
Interesting. I will work on my list pretty soon :)
Wordpress, maybe it is time to try to migrate again? ;-)
