10 Things Pinkos Have to Repeat to Some Clients
...not my clients, of course. ;)
Top 10 things Pinko Marketers [regret having] to repeat to some clients:
This list was inspired by Deb's post over here...hilarious...these are my faves off of her list:
7. Have you asked your customer’s what they want?
...
5. No, real evangelism, buzz and community cannot be manufactured out of thin air.
4. Cultivating impassioned customers for sustainable growth actually takes time.
3. Because they are your customers – you serve them.
...
Christopher Carfi adds another poignant entry:
"we're 'customers' or 'people' or 'readers,' not 'consumers.' if you say 'consumer' one more time, i'm going to beat you with a mackerel."
Heh. He said mackerel...;)
Top 10 things Pinko Marketers [regret having] to repeat to some clients:
- Viral? You may want to take something for that.
- You want to target teenage girls on MySpace? Have you ever been a teenage girl on MySpace?
- What do you mean you want to design a social tagging application that my mother could use? My mother socially tags?
- Of course you should be concerned about appealing to the mainstream...they care so much about what you are doing.
- No, I can't promise we'll get you 100,000 users by your VC meeting next week
- You want to own all of the data/be the next Google/set the standards/etc., too? What a coincidence!
- Yes, that IS considered SPAM.
- How about before we start talking about what you 'could' be we talk about where you need to be today.
- Naw...you are right....Mac users don't matter...
- Yes, you should definitely be targeting the MySpace market - they haven't had enough attention yet.
Bonus: - Designing your product for monetization first, and people second will probably leave you with neither.

Great post!
It all sounds so familar..maybe I should just print on a card and present it to the acocunt teams here before I take the meetings. I'm repeating the first one about 2 times a day at the moment..it's slowly getting traction I think. I hope. Well, maybe.
How about this one I tell my WebCart developer all the time: Wow! Another feature for our shopping cart solution. That's great. What do we do about all the features from before that no one is buying?
