Truth

Just in case you haven't seen it, go see An Inconvenient Truth [Participant Productions]. I'm going again...this time to take notes.

And a funny little tidbit post-movie, Toyota's Hybrid models are the best selling vehicles in North America as of May 06.

Encouraging stat, but it's obviously limited to imports since there's no American makes on the list.

Re: hybrid stats...

Looks like they pulled these stats just to make their point. I had to dig quite a bit to find the actual numbers, and all I ended up finding were the April numbers (but May should be similar.)

According to that list, "Toyota hybrids" would be ninth on the list, but since these numbers are for particular models only, that would be an unfair comparison. All four of Toyota's hybrids put together are still nowhere near the sales of their own Toyota Corolla, which sold over 36,000 units in April.

This Fast Company writeup is of very poor quality (especially since they obviously cut-n-pasted the "All Models, Unless Otherwise Noted" text to further confuse things). Hybrid cars are quickly gaining traction, but the writers here should have stuck to that instead of trying to make a numbers comparison.

Actually just went to see it too and really liked it.
Finally those topics like global warming start to be talked about in a way that nobody can deny.

Tara, I hate to correct you but Acura is Honda of Japan. You are correct about Saturn being GM USA. Subaru and Suzuki shareholdings were recently sold by GM. Volvo, Landrover and Jag are all Ford Europe Products, and Saab is a GM European Product.

Well, it's all good and nice that Toyota does those cars - and I applaud them for the Scions, and love them.

But, they also happen to have some of the biggest trucks and SUVs that get worse mileage than those from the motor city. It's nice that they have the goodwill bucket to take from, while burning as much gas as others.
