I'm FOO BAR 'd
Well...not really. ;)
The truth is that I was invited to FOO Camp. I saw the invitation in my inbox and my jaw totally dropped. OMG, I thought...I've been FOO'd!
Of course this is an honor, but there is some history here. I'm a BarCamp evangelist. Not that this conflicts at all. BarCamp derived from FOO Camp, so it is totally amazing that I get to see the original to compare notes. The problem is that we have been madly planning BarCampEarth for the same time.
So, I took a look at this invitation, was totally honored and then my heart dropped. I couldn't accept this.
So I emailed one of my mentors and, of course, Chris to discuss this. Both of them agreed that, even though I would be missed at BarCamp, I could totally participate in BarCamp whilst I attend FOO Camp - via video, email, blogging, IRC, Flickr, etc. I would also have the experience of attending FOO Camp to bring back to future BarCamp planning. What works. What is different. etc. I can even do a presentation at FOO Camp about what has happened with BarCamp over the past year. I think it is important.
So...with glee, I accepted the invitation. I look forward to meeting the famed Tim O'Reilly (who Tantek says is a great guy) and mixing with his 'friends'. I already know a couple of others who received their invitations that I'd love to spend more time with. I was advised to bring a tent and actually camp out on the lawn. I hear there are good showers (that, I'm afraid, is a distinct improvement over many BarCamp spaces).
I think it will be enlightening for both 'Camps' (har har) to have the crossover. I'll keep everyone in the loop...

Fantastic, congrats Tara.
After the Web 2.0 furore recently, I know he added me to his Christmas card list so... I'll see you there.
Tim's invite to me is probably still in the post but I'll get it any day now, I'm sure!
;-)
I suspect you'll have a wonderful time -- I know I did at the 2004 Foo Camp. Its a supremely good networking event and it will be a great, repeat great place to (casually and informally) look for clients for your new agency (congrats on that btw).
Scott
Yay!
See you there : )
