...we can't rely on the government to get it. I didn't have much faith that we could. Net Neutrality is best left up to us (the community who enjoys it) to protect.
But Jeremy is right (as per offline conversation we had tonight)...people can be lazy and short-sighted. Maybe having the bill defeated was the best thing that could happen. Maybe even a little two-tiered pain is what people need to really mobilize.
Apathy is a terrible reality.
The world is made up of all sorts of people. And I would never wish to reduce the diversity of people into two groups, but along the spectrum of care, there are many people who only stop to care about what is affecting them right now.
It can be reduced to something as simple as mosquitos: I don't take that extra five minutes to stop at a drugstore and buy bug spray as I head to the lake for the weekend, but as those monsters are biting me, I'm willing to drive for hours to find some. It's short-sighted. Or maybe I just don't understand the consequences (yeah, bugs, whatever...I'll just jump in the water or cover up). Or maybe nobody has stopped to explain to me how bad the bugs are out there.
But at some point, we are going to have to start caring...as a group of people...because I think, fundamentally, the more we stop to think about consequences...the more we care...the better the world will be.
Ah...but what do I know...I'm just a hippie 2.0.
p.s. there is hardly a page representing net neutrality on Flickr...wtf?

Cartman said "I hate hippies! I mean, the way they always talk about "protectin' the earth" and then drive around in cars that get poor gas mileage and wear those stupid bracelets - I hate 'em! I wanna kick 'em in the nuts!"
Best to watch out for big-boned cartoon characters, I can't imagine what they'd do to hippie2.0.
