Wikispaces has gone Pinko

I was chatting with Adam Frey at Wikispaces (they host the Riya support wiki) and he told me about a rather Pinko campaign they've organized. They are offering up free Wikispace accounts (all general accounts at Wikispaces are already free, but the premium ones with customizable templates and add free pages cost $$ per month) to teachers.
Why teachers?
Over the last few months, some of the most gratifying feedback we've received has been from teachers telling us how valuable Wikispaces has been to them. Some of the teachers we've been talking to are clearly pretty special. They would do great things with or without online tools but it's also clear that we can help.Wow. So, Wikispaces are rewarding their happiest customers (and those that need it the most) with free accounts and loads of support? Crazy. They've also found a great niche audience, not through marketing, but through actually listening to feedback.
Adam and crew knows that, by rewarding this group and giving them the tools, that teachers will most likely talk to other teachers. Will they all use Wikispaces? Maybe. But they will learn the power of using wikis as a tool for education. That's uber beautiful.
I love hearing these rockin' stories. Definitely bring on more. I'd love for everyone to record them on the PM wiki under the Pinko Examples section. You can link to the company, but it would also be useful for you to create a page that tells the world the following:
- The story behind how it all came about (maybe you noticed activity in a niche area like Adam and wanted to explore that)
- What you did to foster it (not push it...or maybe you just 'got out of the way')
- What were the outcomes (successful? Not? Advice?)

Hi Tara,
I started the ScotEduBlogs.wikispaces.com site with wikispaces and have raved about it toall the teachers I've met. There are now wikis being used to plan ICT strategies in Local Authorities, to plan educational skypecasts and to create wikitextbooks (it's the kids doing that one year for the students in following years).
There are plenty of free wikis but it's because wikispaces have been explicit about it that so much word of mouth is spreading. They're seen as cool, too, because when you've started a traditional wiki with them and THEN discover it's free for your they can revert it to a free teacher wiki. Nice guys.
We here at PBwiki love you guys too. :) We actually host more education focused wikis than anyone! Thanks for hosting the Pinko Marketing wiki with us.
