DEMO 06: Morning Report
Quickie notes from DEMO 06...more detailed reporting can be found at Conferenza...
The theme for this year's conference is:
Simplify Simplify - Thoreau
Presenter #1 - MooBella
Ice Cream vending machine. Linux based. Flash freeze flavours. Wireless. Track inventory in real-time. Takes ice cream where no ice cream has gone before. Boston area 2006. Looking for funding. Mmmmm.
:: Just tried their maple flavour with walnuts folded in...amazing stuff!
"May be the most fattening demo we've ever had." Chris Shipley.
Blurb
Create a commercial quality book. $30. Blog book. "Slurp" photos and content into the application. Do we want it to create it's blogness? Blog server. Automates the input of content. Full bleed (nice!). Reposition images. Swap out the background theme. 175 page hard cover book. Self-publishing. Family historians. Photographers. Make a cookbook. Type your recipe directly into the layout. Contributors. Collaborative publishing. Copyright, acknowledgements, index, etc. Prepopulated pages. Commercially available next month. Self-publishing. Very cool, indeed.
:: Talked to Colin Crook and I get to be part of the Beta! Yay! I already have some ideas. These would make terrific books for friends and family. I'm starting with a BratPack2.0 book...
Bones in Motion
Active lifestyle mobile technology (actually, only really running and cycling). Personal feedback and motivation. How do you turn your cell phone into a personal coach. GPS chip in the phone to measure speed, distance and elevation. Telling the 'story' of your experience. bimActive online - you can store it in your personal web account. Add it to her personal blog. Personal content. Share it through RSS, ATOM, etc. Store, share, search your running routes. Most popular routes. Runners, cyclists, etc. Sprint has offered bimActive on your cell phone.
::Not being a runner, I'm not so jazzed, but I can see it doing pretty well as a sprint add on for those who are. Shel makes a good point that many people don't want to carry a cell phone OR publish their slow progress.
MP3 Car
Street Deck. Open platforms for inside vehicles. Computers in your car are usually closed. No integration. Want your car to run all of your communication device like your pc. Getting Intel based computers into Fords. Connect your iPod, MP3, Navigation system (2.5D mode), Bluetooth for cell phones, xm jack, sirius radio, diagnostic, tuner. 4 years researching in-car UI. Gesture based system. Access cell phone. Localized search. Personalizing your service.
::These guys need to talk with Ajay at Speak With Me.
Digislide Holdings
::Could be cool.
Accomplice Software
We have a flood of to-do's. Spread out. How do we coordinate? Manage stuff. Your partner in crime. Coordinate with others. You can see the other tasks that others have completed. Less boring status meetings. Works on and offline - synchs with your mobile, treo, blackberry, etc.
::Nice idea, but the UI seems kind of clunky to me. Besides, I want it to be more 'online' and integrating my other social sites, not Outlook. Yech.
Grassroots Software
Freepath. Designed for communicators. Powerpoint sucks. Audio and video with full control. Quicktime VR. Integrate. Cooperates with ppt. Video editing. Easy to use. Flexible. Ships in a couple of weeks. $249...introductory $149. Free copy at booth.
::Works with PowerPoint, but why? It looks like a very cool alternative presentation software. Pretty seemless. I'm going to drop my card off for that free copy and give it a whirl. I can't find an online demo, but I swear, it's worth taking a peek at.
Network Streaming
Real time on your desktop network support. Seriously, none of this click here read me this message stuff. The support person actually loads up your desktop and checks it out. No preinstalled client. goes through firewalls. Instant pinging. Can fix from the support desktop. Technician fixes desktop. Feedback logging. Can be delivered in an appliance. only requires power and an IP. small. One rack.
::Very cool tech support app.
Enterprise Solutions
Missed it. Sorry.
Tiny Pictures
More than a billion camera phones by the end of 2006. Radar. Regular people with regular phones. Tiny window into friend's lives. Shown on cell phone. Can comment on photos. Engage in conversation. How do you get them on your channel? Radar for your desktop.
::Hello, my dodgeball friends! This is even BETTER than just SMSing where you are at.
Ugobe
Pleo - Camarosaurus. Robot dinosaur. OMG. So cute. He can feel and express emotions. Capacitive touch sensors. Be aware of itself and it's environment. Sensors to 'come to you'. Found the edge of the table - called down. Expressed fear. Loneliness. Light sensors. Sneezes. So cute!
::Totally loveable...I want one...
Zingee
New online sharing tool. (need more of those, eh?) Moving files one place to another. Online sharing still really sucks. Makes sharing simple. Sharing files with a friend, group and the world. Every file and folder that you share gets a unique URL. It can be searched. Increase the size of the searchable web.
::Sorta like yousendit + Skype, but you can share folders.
GarageBand
Gpal. Companion to iPod. Helps create smart playlists. Share tastes. Discover new music in my tastes. Replace music radio. What do they use to cross reference? Typed in eminem to create a playlist...brought up similar artists - in your collection and not in your collection. What do they use to get that list? Should speak with Pandora. Can add list onto blog Updates automatically. Discovering new artists. GarageBand.com artists. Ah...they create the playlists on garageband.com...
::pretty cool. Now, will they let me share music illegally? Nope. I know. Just checking. Damn DRM.
Multiverse
MMOG. WoW. Terrain generator. Make your own online games. Import from Studio Max. Network of games. Very cool. Create your own world. Taking Second Life to the next level.
::Sweet. Build your own gameland. I have to introduce this to Tad (aka Wild Gorilla)
I had to leave before CNet, GuardID and BiggerBoat, but if I get a chance to visit them in the pavillion...I'll report.
Ooops...off to the next session! We're presenting at 2:44...yikes! Wish us luck!

Hmm, also take a look at Thumbstacks for your basic web-friendly presentation needs... Otherwise, nice deets -- can we get a robot dinosaur for the apt?
How does the printing on the Blurb books look? Hopefully better than the Ofoto books I bought last Christmas. Basically ink-jet prints shoved into off-the-shelf binding. If these books look remotely like commercial printing I'll be buying plenty.
As for the dinosaur, when will they start making these toy robots with WIFI? There's so much more they could do with these if they'd build them to auto-download new software and data on-the-fly.

@FactoryJoe: Yes...I insist we get a Pleo. I heart Pleo. Only problem is that he may get more attention than you. ;)
@Thor: Blurb books are super high quality. Very beautiful. I'm in the Beta, so I'll be producing a few in the next few weeks.
And the dinosaur...Pleo...yes, he should be Wifi. I'll chat with the guy tomorrow. He's fabulous.
Very great edition 06!
I want a pleo too (I think it will be the toy of the year!). If you'll talk to caleb chung, tell him that I could be a french beta tester ;)
Do you know if there is some video recording of the session at demo?
Anything interesting in Car Audio, Mobile Video, or iPod integration?
