We don't need no (more) regulations

WTF?

More DRM? Ack. Is it just me, or does it seem like, when the world seems to be moving more open, more consumer-driven, the entertainment industry gets more closed and more consumer un-friendly.

As TechDirt surmises, Google's move into the Digital Rights Management space was most likely a negotiating point for their new online video download with the powers that be. But, then again, Google took on the good fight with the publishers, why can't they lead the way with the entertainment biz? What good is all of that power and money if they are just going to roll over?

Maybe we need to boycott the current entertainment industry and, either, work on Indy or start our own. Show the RIAA that if they won't get a clue, we're moving along without them.

Well, podcasting and especially music podcasting including what podshow does shows: We want it differently.

But before this, we could only get it with an additional amount of work on our side. Now, that it is easy to access podcasts and music which is podsafe, people are moving towards it.

Compare the numbers of sales for music online / offline and the way people want to access music.

Me, now here. Not me, tomorrow perhaps in a store if I am lucky. And also, not me, paying a crapload of money, but me paying a fair amount of money.

While I do see a need of change from the totally free culture to something where everybody can make a living, the basic principle remains: The new millenium has changed the way we are.

DRM is not how we are today - and this is why the old media fights so hard to keep it. Because they are not ready doing business our way.
