Pure joy...
I'm no restaurant reviewer and I wouldn't usually say anything about a restaurant, but this one is a MAJOR exception:
PURE FOOD AND WINE
54 Irving (at 17th)
New York NY

This is my third trip to New York in the past year and a bit and my third time I've dragged someone to Pure...okay...hear me out...I'm a carnivore...an extreme meat-eating carnivore. I can't imagine having a meal without meat. It just doesn't feel right.
Pure is a raw food vegan organic restaurant. No meat. No cooking. That should be a major barrier for me, but since my first visit there (under coersion, of course), I have dreams about this restaurant. It's vegan, organic and raw and it's hella flavourful.
The photo above is of Joey, Pure's resident sommelier (check out this wine, it's amazing, organic and vegetarian...who knew there was that distinction?) and all-around informative guy. They even kept the restaurant open late for us. I knew we'd be landing at Laguardia at around 8 pm originally, so I made a reservation for 10:15 pm. Unfortunately bad weather in New York delayed our flight until 9:15 and we made it downtown at around 10:30. I called up Pure and asked if we could still be served. Normally, they shut down the kitchen at 11, but they were awesome and accomodated us.
Now, my PiC is a vegetarian (well, more like he doesn't eat red meat) and he's a total foodie, so I had to bring him there. Pure, yet again, made a memorable, fantastic meal. So much so that I have to tell the world (or at least my two readers).
It's pricey, but totally worth it for that 'treat' when you are in the city.
Thanks Joey! Thanks Pure!
