Old school dies hard: Anina the 'model blogger' gets an ultimatum

Choose technology or modelling. They don't belong together.

That's what Anina's modelling agency told her. I don't think it's a case of image, I think it's a case of an old school industry feeling threatened by what Anina is doing. In fact, the community she is building is uber threatening. It threatens to undermine the old boys network that has controlled the modelling and fashion industry for eons.

I say to Anina, "Tell them to go eff themselves. Pretty soon you'll be running your own agency."

Seriously, this girl is mega-disruptive. That's why she rocked Les Blogs and she is going to rock the fashion world, too. She already has them running scared.

DIGG Anina's plight here (thanks Ron!)

I am seriously pissed with this. So I put her story on Digg where much to my amazement it wasn't already there.
Digg Anina

The best I can think of at this moment is to offer her some serious support. This is so sad!

An employer demanding that an employee start focusing on her job instead of spending 1/2 of her time being an internet socialite. How aweful. She was hired to be a full-time model, she's chosing not to do that. Being able to share your professional life with the world is not a right.

@anonymous

I don't know if you understand how the modelling industry works. I don't believe that it is a 9-5 job and I doubt if her blogging and activities in technology are taking away from what she is doing. In fact, I believe that she is doing her agency good by being more out there and self-promoting this way.

They don't see it like that, though. I think they see it as a threat to their traditional top-down approach to management. There could be real opportunity to connect further with Anina's talents.

Being able to share your professional life with the world is not a right? Hmmm...you may want to check out this post:

I don't know who you work for, but it's the new economy and we are all valuable.
