These are snapshots from just a few of the many 'geek gatherings' I've been present at over the past 3 months. From Seattle to San Francisco to Amsterdam to Paris to London - I've attended some amazingly dynamic events with fantastic people, striking up friendships, doing demos, stirring up trouble, doing business, falling in love, brainstorming ideas, executing plans, continuing contact and enriching my life in general.

This is where the Brat Pack 2.0 gathers for what FactoryJoe coined as being San Fransocial...at what Chris Heuer coined as the Unconference Dave Winer coined as the Unconference (oops). Brilliant.

It's the blending of the networking event with the day of learning. It's the opportunity given to people to demonstrate their work and connect with others for collaboration, suggestions, feedback, etc. We're gathering all over the western world...and I wouldn't doubt it will spread further soon. These are 'unprofessional', 'amateur', collaborative events and the birthplace of our future del.icio.us', Flickrs and Googles.

It's being in Paris, or Amsterdam or London and calling a last-minute gathering, where people you've never met show up to meet for the sole reason that we have similar interests. Tonight, I'm attending Hugh Macleod and Robert Scoble's geek dinner, where it is reported to be 150+ attendees...and not all from London.

Sumpin's stirring, but I don't want to hone or define it too much. I want to watch it grow organically and look forward to all of the beauty that comes of it. And really, as it grows and morphs in all directions is where, I believe, we'll see some real magic happen.

p.s. If you are one of the 2 people reading this blog and are throwing a geek event, could your tag your upcoming.org, flickr and blog posts with bratpack2.0 or geekevent? I'd love for us to keep track of the growth and where it goes...as well as one another!

ummm - am not sure, but I think Winer may have coined the phrase unconference - I just apply it to what we do...
