Oh Thunderbird, why must you smite me so?

You may or may not be able to see this, but darnit...I like my desktop email/rss feed application and Thunderbird continues to break my heart:

  1. It loads already read posts, sometimes over and over and over again. I'm a visual person, I get excited when I see a new post. Now, I either have to go through and clean it up or remember the numbers on every feed.
  2. It eats up a huge amount of memory, hangs my computer and needs to be killed and rebooted often.
  3. It likes to crash in the middle of a really vital, really well-thought out email.
  4. It has a tough time communicating with my messaging engine, so quite often it won't deposit my 'sent items' in the sent folder
Now I'm using bloglines and checking my email online...in several different places - but I like the desktop thingy...sigh. What to do? What to do?

SearchFox is nice, but if you want a Desktop Client, you gotta try out KlipFolio. I recommend their Beta 3 which has graphic support. It is the best Desktop RSS reader by far.

Bloglines is a pretty good pick for web RSS reading. It may not have the most AJAXY interface in the world, but it totally works as a distributed reader.

Newsgator Outlook Edition is what I use, plus you can get it on the Web and on your portable device, all synched up. IMO, the best of Rich client + Web.

OK -- their software could look more slick, but it does work well.

Tara,
I like Searchfox as well and Rojo.
Did you try Blogbridge already as mentioned by Techcrunch?

pretty sad, but thunderbird is about as stable as outlook.

things to remember: ctrl+S often to save your posts as draft, restart at least once a day, and: it's not an RSS reader, but it can manage a handful of feeds in a pinch.

I seriously recommend getting FeedDemon or NetNewsWire. it will cost you the price of dinner, but it will improve your quality of life.

I'm VERY happy with RSS Bandit by now. Heck, I'm posting this comment from it now.

I used KlipFolio for a while, but it stops being all that good after you subscribe to the 40th feed.
