Screwed up idea of 'Easy'
I received my Wordpress Golden Ticket a week and a half ago. I've been meaning to migrate over and have been told by many people how darn easy it is to import all of my content from Blogger to Wordpress.
Um...WRONG!
Okay, maybe it is easy for someone who knows PHP or what the hell SQL is...I'm stuck in HTML land, I haven't taken a programming class since DHTML first cracked. It took me long enough to figure out how to set up my FTP stuff since the given passwords/ usernames/ etc. never seem to match the FTP fill-in boxes.
So, I thought...okay, Tara...this may seem confusing, but surely there is SOMEBODY who has created the Blogger-to-Wordpress for Dummies, and sure enough there is. However, there was an extremely important step missing (erm, the first one where you had to download some program and change some stuff and FTP it to your SQL thing with the stuff pointing in the right direction, and there are instructions, but I'm right back to the 'what do I fill in here?' dillemma, 'cause they've gone beyond FTP username and password on me...). Ack!
So, until someone can come and save my stuck-in-1999 Advanced HTML arse, I'm sticking with Blogger.

Good luck with this ... I'm glad Wordpress exists and is open source and has a really strong community of developers, but it is not for the faint of heart, or for people who want to spend more time writing than fussing.
I'm trying to move someone *out* of Wordpress into Typepad ... and no one thought to build an exporter (at least MT, who has no real incentive to make it easy for people to leave, built one).
Disclaimer: I use Typepad and love it. I would trade the "freedom" you get with Wordpress for the prompt, friendly, wonderful tech support folks at Typepad any day. And if you get the "pro" account, you have as much freedom ... except for the fact that its a hosted service.
In any case ... I look forward to your adventures. Once you do get some support (and I'm confident there are friendly Wordpressites out there) I hope you write up the experiences.
