Rosa Parks
It's not exactly a Web 2.0 post....but I do want to post a tribute to a very brave woman who started a very necessary revolution.
One woman defiantly sat in that seat on that bus in 1956 and refused to give it up. Her small action stood for more than even she could have known that day. It was the butterfly effect. How was she to know that the risk she took would stand as an iconic action for generations to come?
Or maybe in a way it is a Web 2.0 post. Many of us participating in the culture of Web 2.0 volunteer our time towards a brighter future for all...racism, sexism, antisemitism, homophobia, etc. hasn't gone away yet. But online is a place where we can start to gather and share our ideas and start revolutions. During Webzine 2005, I saw technology enabling real change in real communities and I was seriously inspired by that.
And today, the smallest voice in the blogosphere has the opportunity to start a revolution. What risks are you going to take to change the world?
::David Weinberger has an excellent tribute here.
