Shel pointed me to a new blog that exclusively covers Google news by Richard Brandt.

This is perfect. Brandt is writing a book on Google and he is an overall expert on the subject. Having a neutral third party reporting news and possible critiques along the way will keep Google on their toes. It will also build more depth to their brand. Their own blog has been oft criticized for being flat and one-sided. Brandt's perspective should be viewed as being objective.
