Metadata and Google
I don't buy the line that Google is just becoming a monopoly for money sake. Sure, the money is important, but I think they may have a grander purpose here.
When they first came on the scene they had the vision to become THE search company. Google wanted to own search. They accomplished that quite easily.
Now what?
Now, I believe Google wants to own all metadata. I don't know if that is a bad thing or a good thing. I just know that every step they are taking, whether it is into Telecom, WiFi, the creation of an online OS, indexing publications, etc. etc. - is all connected to metadata. I think they want to gather it, own it and blow it wide open to everyone.
Why? Well, then back to their original goal - we'd end up with one helluva search engine.
