The DMV
I feel bad for people who work for the DMV. They seem to have a joyless existence.
When I go in for my driver's test (as a Canadian I have to take a road test...crazy, I think, since we drive on the same roads, but icier) I think I'll bring a flower or something similarly sunny and bright. Matt Groening's vision doesn't seem so hyperbole.

The San Mateo DMV was a hellacious place. Luckily I waited nearly 3 years to take the California driving test, for exactly the same reason: seemed demeaning to be considered a non-driver after 17 years on the road.
The good news is that once you take it, it is transferrable to any other state.
I am sure that when I move back to Canada, I will have to take the appropriate provincial driving test.
