My hero

Munjal's most recent post on heroism in a start up really struck a chord with me. As a boss, he's the perfect blend of driven and human - not easy to find. His drive will ensure that we will all have jobs in the years to come and his being human means that we will still have our sanity to enjoy it.

I sent Ken off to the city this morning. I'm a little concerned that he'll get lost in the bowels of SF, never to be seen again, but he's proven himself very resiliant to this chaos of late, so mostly, I'm excited to see how he fares. He has to find us an address pronto. Oh...and we still don't have US bank accounts or much cash. Do landlords around here take credit cards? Here's hoping!

I have a few things to take care of outside of work this week: get my california driver's license (consists of taking a written test), test drive a new car, get an address, call the Social Security office to beg for a temporary number, email Sowmya so at some point I can get paid and talk to some schools about Tad.

At work, I'm pounding away at writing for the website and have coordinated with Uma in India. Unfortunately, the time difference makes for poor collaboration. This is the exciting life of working at a start up! It's kind of like when Scoble talks about Winer reprogramming himself to deal with the bugs in his GPS. I'm reprogramming myself to deal with the bugs in life. Most of us don't have the opportunity to experience this flexibility. I kind of feel alive and tingly.

Back to Munjal, though, he does the exact same thing every day. He is reprogramming himself to deal with the bugs of running a start up (while dealing with the real bugs of the program). Even if he's promised not to try to be the hero anymore, I kind of consider him mine anyway.

Good luck on your move. When I moved from Toronto to southern California back in 2000 (I have since moved back), there were so many things that I had to discover on my own. Also, at that time, I had to take a road test as well as a written test in order to get my drivers licence -- quite a shocking experience at the age of 40!
