Car Bombs Steven Levitt and Religion
Seriously, would you call that true guerilla tactics? I mean, I don't know about whether having a pig onboard would thwart terrorism, but this guy is thinking in the right direction when he talks about educating Americans (and the world, for that matter) about cultural nuances. Hell, it may even lead to understanding.Anonymous said...
Most suicide bombers are motivated by religion. They believe that they will be rewarded in the afterlife if they kill themselves. If you want to curb the suicide bombers you have to focus on their motivation. If the religious leaders can convince these mindless sheep that they will not be rewarded and quite the opposite thing will happen if they take their own life, then they will be reluctant to blow themselves up to begin with.
Education is the only way to stop the madness.
If you want to thwart Muslim extremists from hijacking airplanes to use as weapons, all you have to do is put a few pigs (and no I don't mean police) on board the airplane with them. They will not kill themselves if there is a risk of pig blood mixing with their own.
To combat religious fundamentalists you have to use their religion to do it.
(I'm not jumping on board with the 'War on Terrorism', I just thought that his observations were quite poignant)

Suicide bombers are not necessarily religious fanatics. It tends to be more complex than that. There have been many studies on the suicide bombers out of Palestine and the occupied territories. While religion is a major factor, the kids blowing themselves up are usually not that devout or religious, they tend to have few real opportunities in life, poor guidance, and prone to manic tendencies.
They are recruited and given a noble cause so their life has meaning by manipulative people who use religion in a destructive manner.
